Beauty on the Inside

In ‘Beauty on the Inside’, photojournalist Wes Bruer worked with #cut50 to document the experiences of women who are still incarcerated, with a strong focus on those who were denied clemency under President Obama's historic Clemency Project 2014.

Women are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. Prison Population. Their stories are eerily similar; over 80% have experienced trauma prior to spending time incarcerated. Their time away tends to tear their families apart, and causes their children to experience total de-stabilization. In ‘Beauty on the Inside’, we’ll learn what it’s like to know you’re serving time on charges that have already been deemed excessive, and what it means to have your last chance at freedom, hang by a thread.
